OUR HISTORY

A community with a long history of senior care

1966
In 1966, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. recognized a need for senior housing and approved the incorporation of the Shenango Home in Lawrence County, PA.

1968
Shenango Presbyterian Home opened as a 66-bed facility and was quickly realized as a superior retirement community. Located on the border between Mercer and Lawrence counties, Shenango Presbyterian Home proudly built strong relationships with the Shenango Presbytery, local churches and the community to establish the reputation as a provider of quality living and excellent skilled-nursing care.

1989
To further excel in meeting the changing needs of seniors in the area, Shenango Presbyterian Home partners with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, a not-for-profit faith-based network of living and care options. Partnering with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network also prompted a name change; Shenango Presbyterian Home is now known as Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare.

2000-2002
As residents and community members continued to desire individualized and affordable means of aging in place, Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare continued to offer person-centered care, but began to envision a setting where seniors were able to live independently in apartment-style communities. With that vision, independent living apartments were born.

Ground broke on October 18, 2000. Improvements to the existing building included the addition of Woodside at Shenango, a dedicated wing for residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

On November 2, 2002, we welcomed the first residents to the independent living community.

In 2016, Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare, after receiving 25 years of management consulting services, signs affiliation agreement with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network.

Today, Shenango on the Green continues to focus on resident needs through person-centered care. Residents enjoy a worry-free environment in which they have available a continuum of care as their needs change.
